| An Assessment of Water Quality by Epilithic Diatoms of Hyungsan River Water-System

| ABSTRACT |
|
Epilithic diatoms were collected from several sites of water-system in the Hyungsan River, Kyungpook Province, in April, July and October, 1986. The evaluation of water-system was carried out by new diatoms community index(NDC1) value. The NDC1 value at each station along water-system in the Hyungsan River was calculated by the relative frequency of each diatom taxon, and the pollution map was plotted by NDC1. The river pollution index(PR I) was found to be 67.0 in April, 78.6 in July and 66.9 in October, respectively. The total taxa of diatoms in this study could be classified as 16 of tolerant taxa, 88 of indifferent taxa, and 30 of intolerant taxa.
