Marine Algal Flora and Community of Padori Area in the Taean Peninsula, the West Coast of Korea

ABSTRACT
The marine algal flora and community structure of Padori area in Taean Peninsula, the west coast of Korea, were investigated seasonally during August, 1992 - February, 1993. As a result, a total of 84 algal species - 10 greens, 19 browns and 55 reds - was identified. The flora was classified as the mixed flora based on the species composition. In vertical distribution of intertidal marine algae, Gloiopeltis furcata was at the upper, Sargassum thunbergii, Corallina pilulifera and Acrosorium Yendoi at the middle, and ulva pertusa and chondrus ocellatus at the lower zones, respectively. The dominant species throughout a year was Corallina pilulifera, and the subdominants were Sargassum thunbergii, Gloiopeltis furcata and Ulva pertusa. The biomass of the algal Community on an average was 254.3g/m super(2) in dry matter.
