ABSTRACT
Effect of nutrient on growth characteristics of bloom-forming blue-green alga, Microcystis flos-aquae were investigated in the lake around reclaimed area of Season. Bloom of M. flos-aquae was observed during June 14 1994 through October 12 1994. The temperature ranged 25℃ to 32℃ during the time. Maximum cell concentration reached as high as 5 ×10 super(7) cells/ml at August 10. The blooming area spread entire lake for two months. During the bloom, pH of the water stayed alkaline (pH 8.1-8.7), and PO sub(4)-P concentration was close to 0.05mg/l. The thermophilic property of this species and high concentration of PO sub(4)-P in the water appear to be the main causes of bloom of the species in the lake.
