ABSTRACT
Two recombinant wild-types, the ZGRW (C-0 giant, ♀ x H-25, ♂)and the ZRGW (H-25, ♀ x C-0 giant, ♂)in pigmentation were bred by reciprocal crosses of the green-type (C-0 giant) and the red-type (H-25) pigmentation mutants in cultivated Porphyra yezoensis. Growing tests of the gametothallus of the ZGRW were carried out for determining of inheritance mode of crispness in texture and contents of alanine and glutamic acid restricting eating quality of dried sheets of Porphyras at five farming sites from 1990 to 1991 in Japan. Crispness indexes indicated as hardness values were 2.00-2.78 kg in the ZGRW and 1.60-2.67 kg in the ZRGW, so the ZRGW are crispier than the ZGRW. Contents of total free amino acid, alanine and glutamic acid are 3,166.85-8843.96 mg/100g, 700.69-3,760.41 mg/100g and 915.24-2,582.48 mg/100g in the ZGRW and 2,709.62-8,432.54 mg/100g, 456.07-3,696.51 mg/100g and 807.10-2,306.02 mg/100g in the ZRGW, respectively, so the ZGRW were more abundant in free amino acids contents than the ZRGW. The differences in respective results of the ZGRW and the ZRGW bred by the reciprocal crosses suggest that the inheritance mode of these characters might be cytoplasmic.
