Silica-scaled Chrysophytes (Synurophyceae) in Several Reservoirs, Swamps and a Highland Pond from Changnyong County, Korea

ABSTRACT
Silica-scaled Chrysophytes (Synurophyceae) flora at 13 localities from central-south area of Korea were investigated using electron microscope. Twenty-seven taxa of Mallomonas and nine taxa of Synura were identified by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Among these, M. insignis, M. lelymene, M. oviformis, M. parvula and M. torquata are reported for the first time in Korea and M. trummensis is new to Asia. A very rich flora (33 taxa) of Synurophyceae which amounts to ca. 81% of the Korean flora of these organisms known so far was found in the Maetan reservoir and a large number of species were found only in the mesotrophic waters. However, very few species were found in the highly pollute eutrophic waters and highland dystrophic water.
