Dynamics of the Marine Macroalgal Community in Inchon Dock Ecosystem, Western Coast of Korea

ABSTRACT
Marine algal communities of Inchon Dock were investigated qualitatively and quntitatively. Species composition, biomass, dominant species in biomass and relative frequency, and vertical distributional pattern were surveyed monthly in 1991 and 1994. A total of 47 species was identified; 20 blue-green, 14 green, 6 brown and 7 red algae. Lyngbya pellucida was collected fro the first time in Korea from the present study. Dominant species determined by biomass and frequency were polysiphonia morrowii, Lyngbya Iutea and Lyngbya semiplena. Seasonl fluctuations of mean biomass were 3.18~79.75 g-dry wt/m super(2) at Station 1 and 0.60-48.00 g-dry wt/m super(2) at Station 3. Ecosystem of the Inchon Dock is very unique in species composition, dominant species and seasonal changes of macroalgal community compared to other coastal zone in Korea.
