The Use of Cellular Probes in Studying Marine Phytoplankton

Modern cellular probes are providing new and important insights into biology and physiology of microalgae. Techniques which make use of traditional light and electron microscopic methods combined with modern labelling methods involving lectin molecules targeted to cell surfaces and labelled antibodies targeted against algal proteins and non-protein antigens are being used in my laboratory to answer fundamental questions about toxin-producing marine microalgae.
