ABSTRACT
Seasonal changes of species composition and biomass of marine algae were investigated during March-December 1983, at the intertidal zone of Kori Nuclear Power Plant and adjacent areas, southeast coast of Korea. A total of seventy-six species of marine algae, ten green, twenty-one brown and forty-five red algae were identified. At Kori site, forty-five species were observed. It showed rather poor algal vegetation than adjacent areas, Chilam-ri and Shinam-ri, as well as previous investigations (1969-1970, 1977-1978). The dominant species in specific proportions of biomass were Corallina pilulifera, Pachymeniopsis elliptica, Chondria crassicaulis, and Chondrus ocellatus. Seasonal fluctuations of mean biomass were 77-80 g-dry/m super(2) during spring-autumn, and decreased in winter as 65 g-dry/ super(2). Among eleven warm-tolerant species found at the discharge canal of Kori unit 1, Enteromorpha compressa, Corallina pilulifera and Zanardinula cornea were rather luxuriant throughout the year.
