ABSTRACT
A subtidal benthic algal Community of Chuckdo in eastern coast of Korea were investigated seasonally in 1985 with quadrat method at line transect by Scientific SCUBA Divers. As a result, a total of 103 species were identified in this area through four seasons; 2 blue-green, 6 green. 26 brown and 68 red algae. The composition of algal community varied according to seasons and environmental conditions. Water movement and inclination of the substratum seemed to be main limiting factors for the community structure in this area. Vertical distribution, recognized by cluster analysis based on relative coverage of the species, could be divided into two algal groups at transect line A, four at transect line B, and three at transect line C. Number of species gradually decreased with increasing of the depth. Standing crop exhibited maximum value as 228.4 g/m super(2) in dry weight in spring. Two vegetational associations were recognized in total area investigated.
