ABSTRACT |
Twelve species and two forms of Porphyra from Korea were examined in character analysis and numerical taxonomy. Twenty one quantitative and twelve qualitative characters selected, and principal component analysis and cluster analysis were applied for discrimination and determination of the taxa. The maximum length of blade / maximum width of blade, base angle, thickness of blade, presence or absence of oblique division in carposporangium and microscopic denticulation at margin, feature of spermatangial area, prototrichogyne type and sexuality were significant characters for distinguishing taxa in character analysis. The results of numerical taxonomic analysis suggested that P. okamurae, P. suborbiculata f. suborbiculata and P. suborbiculata f. latifolia should be the same species.
