Two Species of Porphyra (Bangiales, Rhodophyta), P. koreana sp. nov. and P. lacerata Miura from Korea

ABSTRACT
A new species and a new record of the genus Porphyra, P. koreana sp. nov. and P. lacerata Miura are described from the coast of Korea. P. koreana growing in subtidal to lower intertidal zones is characterized by thalli being elliptical to obovate, bright red or brownish red and very delicate, basal cells projecting a rhizoidal filament downwards in one direction, spermatangia arranged in small rectangular or rhombic patches, and carpogonia without discernible prototrichogyne. P. lacerata is characterized by small and very thin thallus, basal cells projecting a rhizoidal filament downwards in one direction, carpogonia with discernible prototrichogyne, and marginal laceration in mature plant.
