Department of Oceanography, Inha University
ABSTRACT
From 1985 to 1986, 15 new pennate diatoms, unrecorded in Korea, occurred in the Korea coastal waters. These species are Gephyria media, Rhabdonema arcuatum var. robusta, Synedra crystallina, Diploneis advena, D. chersonensis, D. crabro var. excavata, D. stroemi, D. weissflogi, Mastogloia strigilis, Navicula barbitos, N. lyra from. subtypica, N. scopulorum, N. spectabilis, N. transfuga, Campylodiscus fastuosus. Among the species, Rhabdonema arcuatum var. robusta as Araphid diatom has five labiate processes on the costae of the valve. The apical pore fields of Gephyria media are shown only on the concave valve. Synedra crystallina has one apical spine on apex of valve. Diploneis chersonensis and D. weissflogi have chamber openings on the outside. However D. advena and D. crabro types have pitted depressions instead of chamber openings.
Key words: Fine Structure, Pennate Diatom, New record in Korea
