ABSTRACT

Two-gene sequences and morphology of Gelidium zollingeri (Kutzing) comb. nov. (Gelidiales, Rhodophyta) (26: 33-40) Kyeong Mi Kim, Grevo S. Gerung and Sung Min Boo The new combination of Gelidium zollingeri (p. 39) based on Porphyroglossum zollingeri Kutzing (1847) is incorrect because of the priority of Gelidium zollingeri Sonder (1854). Although the type localities of both species are same (Southeast Malang Province, Java, Indonesia) (see Silva et al. 1996), our observation of the type of Gelidium zollingeri Sonder (H. Zollinger 619 as MEL 504353!, Australia) showed that it is clearly different from the isotype of Porphyroglossum zollingeri (L941, 182-77!) as well as the material of the latter species that we collected in its type locality and used for sequencing rbcL and cox1 genes. Here, we propose a new name for Porphyroglossum zollingeri as follows; Gelidium indonesianum (Kutzing) K. M. Kim, G. S. Gerung et S. M. Boo, nom. nov. Basionym: Porphyroglossum zollingeri Kutzing 1847: 775. (type; SE Java near Malang, Indonesia, Zollinger 2109 [L941, 182-77]). In: Kutzing F. T. (1847) Diagnosen einiger neuen auslandischen Algenspecies, welche sich in derSammlung des Herrn Kammerdirectors Klenze in Laubach befinden. Flora 30:773-776. Etymology: We have chosen Gelidium indonesianum because this taxon is endemic to Indonesia. We thank Richard L.
