ABSTRACT
species composition and vertical zonation of marine benthic plants were investigated at the littoral area of Sapsido on the Yellow Sea from March, 1989 to May, 1991. A Total of 102 species of marine plants (12 green, 30 brown, 58 red algae and 2 grasses) were identified. Functional form analysis showed that corticated and leathery macrophytes occurred more frequently than foliose and filamentous forms. Zonation pattern of littoral plants in Sapsido Island was similar to that of different locations on western coast of Korea; Gelidium divaricatum, Gloiopeltis spp., Myelophycus simplex in thee upper littoral area; Scytosiphon lomentaria, Pelvetia siliquosa in the mid littoral, and Corallina pilulifera in the lower. P. siliquosa and S. thunbergii had high coverage and biomass throughout the year.
